Our story

A practice carried forward since 1997.

Yoga Payammehr grew from a school founded in Tehran into a continuing space for practice, study, teacher education and the transmission of yoga across generations of students.

Read the story

The beginning

A school shaped by continuity rather than a single course

Yoga Payammehr’s official Canadian Yoga Alliance school profile records the school as founded in Tehran in 1997. From that beginning, its identity developed around sustained practice and education rather than short-term instruction alone.

Across the years, the school’s documented teaching history has included physical practice, breath, meditation, yoga philosophy and teacher education — different dimensions held within a broader relationship to yoga as a living discipline.

That history continues today through teachers, ongoing courses, specialist learning pathways and a community of graduates whose practice has extended beyond the classroom.

A broad field of study

Practice, breath, philosophy and the art of teaching

  • Asana & embodied practice

Developing a more attentive relationship with the body, movement, steadiness and the quality of practice.

  • Pranayama & awareness

Breath and attention as integral dimensions of practice rather than additions to physical movement.

  • Meditation & philosophy

Study extending beyond form into observation, self-inquiry, yogic philosophy and contemplative practice.

  • Teacher education

Learning how practice becomes responsible teaching through knowledge, continuity, experience and care.

A teaching tradition

An approach that connects different dimensions of practice

Historical curriculum material associated with Yoga Payammehr documents study across areas including asana, pranayama, meditation, Yama and Niyama, yoga philosophy and teacher education. Some specialist areas have also formed part of the school’s educational history.

These references describe the breadth of Payammehr’s teaching heritage; they should not be read as a list of courses currently on offer. Today’s active programmes are presented separately through Yoga Payammehr’s current course channels.

Within this wider history, Cyclic Yoga has formed an important part of the school’s documented identity — a subject explored separately as part of Yoga Payammehr’s methodology and teaching heritage.
